GAP Waste

GAP Waste became the natural progression of GAP Haulage. As one of the UK’s most competent and efficient collectors of electrical waste streams from Civic Amenity sites, we were often challenged on the locations we were delivering waste to in order complete our recycling service.

We then investigated the operational and financial aspects of brining this service in house in order to provide a more efficient service to our customers. The team at GAP then secured contracts with their long-term customers where GAP would save the customer costs from lower stem mileages and improve their carbon footprint and at the same time enjoy the processing revenue that was being given to plants located often hundreds of miles away.

In 2016, GAP installed a fully automated WEEE plant, a complementary free standing copper plant, expanded our in house CRT recycling facility together with our commercial reuse facility making us one of the most comprehensive processing players in the WEEE marketplace.

Prior to becoming a waste processor, we were fortunate to have visited most of the UK WEEE processing plants on behalf of our customers. We learned a lot from this experience (poor processing, tipping delays, correct paperwork and transparent auditing). GAP Waste was developed from these experiences and we believe we have extracted the positives and combined with our 8 years experience within the UK WEEE industry have removed the shortcomings that were once our own frustration.

Contract with GAP today and experience the difference!

Our Waste Services:

GAP Standard WEEE Waste Recycling in Newcastle

WEEE Processing:

WEEE is often described as anything that is powered via electricity or batteries. The WEEE Directive requires us to reuse and recycle wherever possible. GAP provides a fully licensed program for testing and repair enabling us to sell on refurbished electrical products.

Our largest source of waste arrives from CA sites where national figures estimates under 1% recovery and reuse is achieved. With this in mind GAP Waste has installed a state of the art 5 tonnes/hour WEEE processing facility at our 6-acre freehold site on Tyneside.

We offer various collection methods for all WEEE streams throughout UK. This includes container solutions dispatched to and collected from your site, through to accepting inbound full truckloads on a gate price basis. All waste is quantified on our weighbridge and then processed within a highly transparent and auditable facility.

GAP Large Domestic Appliance LDA Recycling

Large Domestic Appliances (LDA's):

GAP Waste has one of the few processing plants in the UK capable of processing LDA’s such as washing machines and dishwashers.

Most WEEE recyclers send these to metal processors, as their equipment won’t handle these bulky items. Our video demonstrates GAP Waste collecting LDA’s daily and providing a complete recycling service with the recyclate being sold within the material recovery chain.

Equally if you have appliances that are capable of being reconditioned and reused, GAP Reuse will partner with you, so that we can both benefit from the correct handling of a higher grade of WEEE waste.

GAP Small WEEE Waste Newcastle Tyne & Wear

Small Domestic Appliances (SDA's):

SDA’s are typically found in and around your home and business and include kettles, toasters, food mixers, microwaves, etc.

We process SDA's in two ways. Any resalable items still in their packaging or capable of being reconditioned are sent to the GAP Reuse department for assessment and testing. We partner with large producers of high grade WEEE (such as OEM’s or retailers) and can arrange a profit share scheme. For used or damaged goods or those received in smaller quantities we simply process in our fully automated WEEE plant.

GAP Waste works with other waste companies/recyclers accepting bulk shipments of this waste stream at our gate where higher grade SDA may generate a rebate.

GAP Offer a Reuse & Recycling Service from our site in the North East

Reuse & Recycle:

GAP Waste is one of less than five UK companies, with both an auditable Reuse program alongside a fully automated purposely-designed WEEE processing plant. Many companies claiming reuse and recycling often broker or export the WEEE.

GAP works with selected partners allowing us to maximize the value of your WEEE. GAP gives you that peace of mind by exploring all processes to minimise recycling costs and maximise reuse potential.

GAP could be the partner you’ve longed for to maximise your waste management

Display Recycling:

GAP Waste have recycled thousands of tonnes of TV’s and Computer Monitors. We provide both reuse and recycling for more modern flat panel sets which are capable of reconditioning, conversely, we can provide a fully auditable solution for damaged sets and the older Cathode Ray Tubes.

We provide reconditioned monitors for resale and sell product in our own retail outlet or via online platforms.

Although we can process the vast majority of display waste, we have partnered with glass processors who take care of the hazardous glass components during the recycling process.

Fridge Recycling at GAP here in the North East

Fridge Recycling:

GAP Waste collects over 100,000 waste fridges per annum. We collect bulk shipments and transport across the UK in our articulated fleet, which average 5/6 tonnes per load.

Fridges are undoubtedly the biggest problem within todays WEEE market as processing capacities become ever more limited and difficult to secure which can result in price increases.

GAP Waste invites discussions with organisations producing in excess of 100 units who are looking to contract their refrigeration volumes.

We are open for gate price volume drop offs or national collections of high volume refrigerated/cooling waste.

Lamp Recycling GAP Group North East Newcastle

Lamp Recycling:

Lamps are one of the most difficult streams of WEEE to handle and process.

The older sodium and fluorescent lamps require different recycling processes and new LED technology that now dominates lamp installations require a specialist WEEE plant to dispose of these correctly, as components within LEDs will destroy older recycling equipment.

GAP Waste collects every type of lamp and fully recycles the LED lamps in-house and works with a partner on the older lamps as their numbers diminish.

Customers are at pains to separate lamps and prefer one container if possible. At GAP, we sort, segregate and recycle every lamp type to remove the headache and ensure your compliance.

Battery Recycling GAP Group GapWaste Newcastle

Battery Recycling:

We are able to provide a battery collection and recycling service where we distribute shipments of containers throughout the UK for Battery Compliance Schemes.

If you have a national complement of UK retail premises collecting portable domestic batteries from the public we would discuss a partnership supplying purposely designed battery containers and then aligning your organisation with GAP Waste and a Battery Scheme to service your national facilities.

GAP Waste are always interested in talking to producers of battery waste alongside your other electrical waste collections where we can broker your batteries for full recycling.

Anaerobic Digestion GAP Group North East Plascarb

Food Waste Recycling:

As part of our ongoing services. GAP are able to provide a collection and processing service for your food or organic waste via Anaerobic Digestion facilities where energy trapped within the food waste is liberated to produce green energy.

If your business or commercial organisation produces food or you generate food waste in any form, we can help save you money, decrease your landfill charges and reduce your carbon footprint. Simply by recycling a single tonne of food waste, we can help avoid emissions of up to 1 tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent
